Welcome to 2022, where memes are worth millions, and digital artwork sales are expected to rise by 200% in the upcoming months.

To make things even more strange and exciting, South Korean tech giant Samsung announced that its 2022 TV lineups will feature a non-fungible token (NFT) app which allows users to browse, purchase and trade NFTs without leaving the comfort of their couch.

“With demand for NFTs on the rise, the need for a solution to today’s fragmented viewing and purchasing landscape has never been greater,” the company said in its press release. It aims to introduce the world’s first TV screen-based NFT explorer and marketplace aggregator, and promises its smart TVs will not tamper with the image quality, keeping the NFT creator’s preset values.

This means that if you have a Samsung MicroLed, Neo QLED or The Frame model smart TV at home, you’ll be able to showcase your CryptoPunk or Bored Ape Yacht Club collection directly on the set. You can also preview the art and see other details, like who created the work, as well as relevant blockchain metadata.

Aside from Samsung, other big brands are also getting into the game. Nike, Taco Bell, Budweiser, and Coca-Cola have launched their own NFTs, while Time Magazine is producing a children’s TV show based on Robotos, a popular robot-themed NFT project

According to attorney Tal Lifshitz, a partner and co-chair of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton (KTT),  a Miami-based cryptocurrency, digital asset, and blockchain group, it’s easy to see why these companies are spending millions on NFTs.

“It’s trendy, it’s fun, and it’s cutting-edge technology that actually has the potential to redefine the way these brands do business and engage with their consumers,” he says. “The more important question is, why are big brands not spending big money on NFTs?”
